The piece starts with a solo played by the cello which contains all the melodic and rhythmic ideas that are subsequently developed throughout the work. After the cello presents the initial material, a discourse unfolds where rhythm and melody contribute equally to create the form of the piece. The role of the two instruments varies in time. In the beginning and for quite a while one instrument is clearly leading of accompanying the other. The different nature of the two instruments highlighting these two roles. As the music progressed I became interested in creating an indivisible totality, in blending the two ‘natures’ into one, interlocking the cello and the marimba in such a way that it would be no longer possible to separate their roles, both contributing equally to create the fabric of the music.
